Interim Manager - Energy Department / IID - Organization - Executive Management - Department Managers -
Mario Escalera is the interim manager of Imperial Irrigation District (IID) Energy, the third largest public power utility in California and one of five balancing authorities in the state. As interim Energy Manager of a vertically-integrated energy utility, Escalera oversees the 600-employee workforce of the Energy Department including Customer Service Operations, Power Generation, System Operations, Construction and Maintenance, Transmission Planning and Operations, and the Financial Controller.
Escalera began his twenty-year career with Imperial Irrigation District in 1987 in facilities management, overseeing the operations and maintenance of a number of water and power facilities within its vast 6,471-square mile service area. He was later promoted to head the project management section in IID’s Water Department where he was responsible for the development of a number of capital construction projects. With a strong background in capital project development, Escalera continued his rise at IID on the water side of the business ultimately serving as the Assistant Manager of Construction and Maintenance where he was responsible for the development and management of a $43 million capital budget and proved effective in managing internal and external resources, including a staff of almost 200 employees.
A native of Calexico, California, Escalera attended Imperial Valley College where he received an Associate of Science degree in engineering and also attended California Polytechnic University, Pomona. Escalera earned a Bachelor of Science degree from National University in logistic systems management and Master of Science in Public Administration at San Diego State University. He has also earned Academic Certification in construction practices and management and facilities operations.
Escalera belongs to a number of professional organizations including the American Public Works Association, the International Facilities Management Association, the National Fire Protection Association, the Construction Specification Institute and the Project Management Institute.
A father of three, he and his wife, Patricia, reside in El Centro, California. |
