IID Strategic Plan

In the summer of 2008, IID held a series of stakeholder meetings with senior management, the IID Board of Directors and the public to create a strategic plan for the organization. The finished plan, which included operating norms, new mission and vision statements and a list of strategic objectives, was adopted by the board on September 23, 2008 and updated November 17, 2009

Strategic Objectives

Implement a comprehensive financial strategy
Target activities in support of this objective call for the development of financial metrics and management policies. In addition, a methodology for long-term capital and operations and maintenance spending programs must be created.

shieldDevelop an integrated water resource plan
Target activities for this objective involve development of the IRP document and an accompanying risk analysis.

Develop an integrated energy resource plan
The Energy Department has been tasked with development of its own integrated resource plan to optimize generation, transmission and distribution assets, among other target activities listed under this strategic objective.

Develop a comprehensive infrastructure plan
A comprehensive infrastructure plan comprises the fourth objective, which is supported by such target activities as conducting an inventory of all existing physical assets throughout the enterprise and moving forward with the construction of a new IID headquarters building that would be located east of its present site.

Create a resource management methodology for managing and coordinating resources (human and equipment)
The fifth objective is the development of management tools and strategies to provide for the integration of human and technical resources in support of all other objectives. Target activities that fall under this objective are the alignment of projects and initiatives with their underlying business cases and the introduction of a balanced scorecard approach to project development and management.

 SHield

Attract, retain and continually develop a qualified and effective workforce
The sixth and final objective focuses on the IID work force and entails not only the internal process of redefining the organizational culture but looking to the future of the employee base through such techniques as succession planning.

OBJ 7Create and implement a comprehensive communication strategy
One of the chief concerns cited by employees in the recently completed 2009 survey was that objectives of the strategic plan have not been adequately communicated, either corporately or through middle management, to the IID work force. In response, we are consolidating the communications and government affairs sections into a single public affairs department. These sections will act as a unified whole, internally and externally.
