Proposed Interruptible Rate and High Voltage Discount / Energy Department- Rates & Regulations -
The IID completed a cost-of-service study in 2009 that recommended IID offer alternative rate structures, such as interruptible rates and high voltage discounts. As a result, IID is proposing an interruptible rate and a high voltage discount during the following public rate hearings: El Centro Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 5 p.m. Condit Auditorium, 1285 Broadway La Quinta Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 5 p.m. IID Boardroom, 81-600 Avenue 58 An interruptible rate structure will allow IID to cut power supply costs and augment power shortages during peak periods or when market prices rise above contractual levels. As proposed, this rate would be available to customers who have monthly demands of 1,000 kilowatts or more during a 12-month period. Upon notification, participating customers will be asked to reduce at least fifty percent of their load. In exchange, customers will receive a monthly participation credit. All eligible customers will be required to complete an interruptible rate enrollment application and are subject to an excess energy charge if they fail to reduce their electrical usage to the amount specified on the enrollment application. The proposed high voltage discount will be available to eligible large commercial customers who receive service at a primary voltage level and that are serviced at voltage levels of 34.5 kV or more. If approved, these rates will become effective October 1, 2010. For more information, please contact IID’s rates group at (760) 339-9873. |
