(EL CENTRO, Calif.) – The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors and General Manager Jesse Silva honored two of the District’s General Service Department employees for their help in apprehending and convicting two individuals accused of stealing from the company. Fermin Estrada and Jason Wilson, maintenance carpenters, were awarded $250 each Tuesday for their help in the arrest and conviction of two suspects who had burglarized the Terminal Substation, in El Centro, earlier this year.

Estrada and Wilson had reported to the substation to repair a broken fence. When they approached, they saw two suspects burglarizing the substation. To be safe, Estrada and Wilson kept their distance and reported the incident to police. When

police arrived, the employees identified the suspects who were later convicted in court.

“They did the right thing,” said Kerry Van Bebber, IID Security, Claims and Investigations supervisor. “Without these employees, the arrests and convictions would never have happened.” The District’s reward system offers up to $1,000 per incident for anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of perpetrators who commit theft or damage to District property.
