Before gaining access to a protected site, IID sends an exploratory team on foot to ensure that the path ahead is clear of any endangered vegetative or animal species and also any historical artifacts of cultural significance.
If found, a flag is then placed at the site to alert the IID construction, operation, and maintenance crews, so that they may avoid harming the threatened species or artifact. These flags can only be removed with permission from the proper authority.
Just as we encourage and train our employees to be conscious of our delicate ecosystem and precious natural resources, we encourage those in the community to use caution and be aware when working or traveling through the desert.
