IID Operations- General Services & Information Technology - Environmental, Regulatory, and Emergency Planning -


The Imperial Irrigation District’s (IID) Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Unit was created to ensure the IID remains compliant with local, state, and federal regulatory laws.  The HazMat Unit consists of 5 Hazardous Materials Technicians and/or Specialists, however every employee at the IID has the responsibility of regulatory compliance.    

The IID currently has 13 individual Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identified waste generating facilities within the IID’s Water and Energy service areas that extends throughout Imperial County and into Riverside County in the Coachella Valley.   The IID has developed a proactive hazardous materials/waste regulatory compliance a program consisting of the following 5 major components. 

  
  1. Audits and inspections
  2. Training
  3. Hazardous waste collection and management
  4. Emergency response
  5. Special reporting requirements
