Water Department- Water Conservation -

In 2006 IID launched an effort to evaluate the different methods for the equitable distribution of water within its service area in times when water user demand, exceeds supply.

In June 2007, acting on the recommendation of the General Manager, the board of directors unanimously voted to declare an SDI condition in 2008. This set in motion the process of developing a system for the apportionment of water based on the straight-line methodology, as well as the more detailed implementation rules and policies. In December 2007 though, improved end-of-year water use projections based in part on rainfall events caused the IID Board of Directors to rescind their earlier SDI declaration. While this negated the need for the formal implementation of an Equitable Distribution Program, staff was directed to continue its Equitable Distribution implementation efforts and proceed with an equitable distribution pilot project in 2008.
