Who We Are / Water Department- About IID Water Dept. -
Administration The Water Administration Section is responsible for the administration and maintenance of all Water Department operations. Water Administration compiles, presents and maintains the department’s annual budget and budget management reports. Resources Planning & Management The Resources Planning and Management (RPM) section is responsible for the management and protection of the IID’s water resources. The RPM section provides technical assistance and oversight, develops conservation, monitoring and compliance programs, manages water quality issues and projects, and is involved in the review and analysis of documents and plans as they relate to IID’s water supply. This section manages the implementation of water conservation and transfer programs and represents IID in negotiations and consultations with other State and Federal agencies regarding the use of Colorado River water and related activities. The Irrigation Management and Monitoring Unit (IMMU), within the RPM section, is tasked with implementing IID’s on-farm outreach efforts including a variety of support services related to field level water conservation and management projects. IMMU also provides water quality and flow monitoring services for both IID and on-farm activities.
Engineering Services Engineering Services functions include: management and administration, planning and preliminary engineering, design and drafting, survey investigations, inspection and construction support (staking, engineering input, etc.). These services are provided for the Water Department, outside agencies, developers, special fund projects, as well as for Energy Department (primarily surveying investigations and drafting) and other capital maintenance and planning projects. Engineering Services also functions as a liaison for the District and provides protection of District interests through planning and commenting on technical and legal documents and/or issues involving policies, procedures, legal, real estate, engineering, financial, operation, and maintenance, construction, water resources, etc.
Water Operations The Water Operations section is responsible for delivering irrigation and municipal water, and is primarily a manual operation. Operation of Colorado River diversion structures and of main canals for water transmission and distribution is managed with a combination of field personnel and dispatch staff operating a computerized control system. Water Operations is also responsible for system monitoring and recording of water-related resources.
Construction & Maintenance The Construction and Maintenance Section is accountable and responsible for the maintenance and construction of all Water Department conveyance facilities in order to to meet the irrigation and drainage needs of Water department customers. This responsibility consists of oversight and management of the District’s irrigation and drainage facilities including installation and maintenance of pipelines, siphons that cross county and private roads, open channel canals, lateral canals, water delivery structures, open channel main drains, division drains, and the Salton Sea. It also includes maintenance of Imperial Dam, Laguna Dam, the All American Turnout, and the Desilting Facilities at Imperial Dam, as well as maintenance of all control structures in the All American Canal. In addition, this section is responsible for scheduling and monitoring of the countywide Weed Control Program that is administered by outside contractors. |
