Community Solar Programs

As part of IID’s efforts to diversify our energy sources, including renewable energy, and to deliver even greater value to our customers, we are pursuing the following clean energy projects.

IID Sponsored Programs

IID continues to support renewable energy advancement, continues to monitor the reliability, operational and financial impacts to all ratepayers while pursuing ways to include more ratepayers in the renewable energy mix. IID is developing a new community solar project of up to 20 megawatts and working to establish a community storage project of up to 10 megawatts. And to ensure all customers have access to the benefits of solar power, IID is also working to create a separate low-income solar program specific to income-qualified customers.

Updates on these programs will be available in the coming months.

Citizens Energy Corp. Program

SolarUsing proceeds from their partnership on the Sunrise Powerlink transmission line, Citizens Energy, a nonprofit corporation, hopes to install 100 solar rooftop systems a year for the next 30 years, for low-income residents in Imperial Valley.

Program Description
Each system will be purchased, installed and maintained, at no cost to the homeowner, by Citizens Energy. The entire process from the time of signing up to the date of operation is estimated to take place within six months.

The solar system will reduce the homeowner's electricity costs by an average of 40 to 50 percent. However, actual savings will be determined by a number of factors, including the household’s electric usage and the solar system size.

To be eligible for the solar benefit, in addition to meeting certain income guidelines, each household must have received a free energy audit and weatherization services (from either Imperial Irrigation District or SoCal Gas) to ensure the most efficient use of the electricity produced by the solar system.

Interest Form
Low-income homeowners can submit their interest online. This program is currently only available to low-income homeowners in Imperial County, California.

This program is funded and administered by Citizens Energy Corporation. IID works with participating customers and Citizens Energy to ensure the systems are properly installed and will not affect the reliability of the electrical system.
