What to Expect at Your In-Home Energy Audit

What is an energy audit?
An energy audit consists of an onsite consultation with an Energy Specialist designed to help you understand the electric consumption of your business. A qualified specialist will examine your business and help you find ways to reduce energy consumption, improve comfort, and lower energy bills.

What happens at the energy audit?
An energy audits representative will start by providing you with your electrical usage for the prior twelve months. We have found that reviewing usage helps our customers understand their consumption. The energy audits representative will also inquire about the outcome you were hoping to accomplish during the energy audit. This will help ensure our representative answers your specific questions and concerns. We will walk around the inside and outside of your business taking inventory of the different systems in your establishment(plumbing, heating/cooling, water storage, building envelope, appliances, lighting, etc) while answering any questions you might have.

How long will the energy audit last?
A typical consultation will last anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour. This should allow adequate time for the energy audits representative to discuss your usage with you and examine your business for energy saving opportunities.

What do I need to do to prepare for my energy audit?
During the audit, the energy audits representative may require access to all the rooms in your business, garage, and yard. If you have a concern regarding an energy audits representative entering the rooms of your business, please discuss those concerns with the energy audit representative when scheduling your appointment.

What will be the outcome of the energy audit?
Upon the completed examination the energy audit representative will generate a report that summarizes the existing conditions in your home or business, identify potential energy saving measures and provide direction towards additional resources and energy saving remediation. The audit report will be either mailed or e-mailed to you based on your preference.

* The information you receive as a result of an energy audit is yours alone and will not be shared with any vendor or salesperson. The audit is available to all IID residential customers, and customers are under no obligation to act upon any of the recommendations.

**Free onsite energy audits are only available to customers with a comsumption load below 30kW. Customers are eligible to receive one onsite energy audit every three years.
