Salton Sea Video: From Progress to Potential

The Salton Sea, located along the Pacific Flyway, is an important stopover point, providing year-round habitat for local and migrating birds and other species. Unfortunately, as the water level has declined over time, so too has the functional value of the habitats that are supported by the sea.

Thankfully, state and federal agencies, local stakeholders and the Imperial Valley farming community, have been developing additional habitat for wildlife at the sea via smaller projects that require less engineering and infrastructure. And simpler design and permitting processes help get the projects completed sooner and for less. These cooperative efforts give the sea momentum to reach its potential of being the “crown jewel” of avian diversity for generations to come.
