The Imperial Irrigation District today announced the launch of a new public information initiative to help the community understand the growing interest from data center developers seeking to locate in the District's service territory.

A new webpage titled “Data Center Facts for IID Customers” is now available at www.iid.com/datacenterfacts and includes an associated fact sheet, “Data Center Facts for IID Customers,” and related news.

Customers are encouraged to visit the site and review the resources that explain what data centers are, why developers are considering the IID service area, and how the District evaluates proposals to protect ratepayers, water resources, and long-term system reliability.

“IID welcomes and fully supports economic development opportunities, and we are open to creative solutions,” said Jamie Asbury, IID’s General Manager. “Data centers use significant amounts of electricity and cooling water. We are not here to get in the way, but we must ensure that any proposal aligns with our reliability standards, cost-recovery requirements, and the long-term interests of the people we serve.”

This effort reflects IID’s commitment to providing clear, accessible information on initiatives of public interest linked to IID’s services — a practice the District will continue for other emerging topics of interest.

In the near future, IID will host a public workshop, providing residents with the opportunity to learn more, ask questions, and engage directly with District staff and subject-matter specialists. Additional details will be provided as they become available.

IID welcomes economic development opportunities, but the District must ensure that any proposal aligns with its energy reliability standards, cost-recovery requirements, and the long-term interests of local customers.
