The Imperial Irrigation District has launched a new online platform today to connect IID customers with everything they need to know about electric cars, vehicle chargers, charging stations and incentives.

IID customers interested in exploring electric vehicles are encouraged to visit the new platform, called EVolve, which is located online at www.iid.com/EVolve.

“Electric cars will drive the future,” said Marilyn del Bosque Gilbert, IID’s energy manager. “Driving electric is a natural option given the unpredictable gas situation. IID’s low energy rates and its EV charger rebate make the switch even more compelling.”

Since 2017, IID has been integrating electric vehicles into its fleet and is exploring opportunities to support the region with charging infrastructure.

To encourage the adoption of zero-emission vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles by customers in its service area, IID is offering a rebate of up to $500 for Level 2 EV chargers through the district’s charger rebate program. The introduction of the EVolve platform is the IID’s most recent step in electric vehicle electrification efforts.

Designed to increase consumer awareness of electric vehicles, IID’s EVolve online platform was created in conjunction with ZappyRide. The new web platform offers a number of learning opportunities, allowing customers to:

  • Assess information on every electric-powered vehicle on the market, including zero-emission vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
  • Refine the search for EVs by price, driving range and number of seats.
  • Compare the cost of driving using IID’s electric rates versus local gas prices.
  • Learn about rebates and other incentives offered by federal, state and local entities, including IID’s rebate program for EV chargers.
  • Locate charging stations using zip codes.

As California moves to 100 percent clean energy, utilities across the state are promoting the use of electric vehicles and offering incentives to customers for shifting from gas-powered vehicles. When plugged in locally, electric vehicles will charge with 33 percent renewable energy – some of the cleanest energy in the nation.

“Californians can continue to pay some of the highest gas prices in the nation or we can EVolve and enjoy driving vehicles powered by clean energy. IID’s EVolve platform will help customers transition intelligently,” concluded Gilbert.
