Director Karin Sol Eugenio serves as Chairwoman of the IID Board of Directors. She is one of just a few women, over the course of the District’s 115-year history, to serve in this capacity. She represents IID Division 5, which includes Imperial, Holtville, part of Calexico, and eastern Imperial County.

She was elected by the public to the IID Board in the June 2022 primary election.

Her civic involvement includes serving on the Imperial Valley Food Bank  Board of Directors, the City of Imperial Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and being elected to the City of Imperial City Council, where she also served as mayor.

She is also a member of the philanthropic group, P.E.O.

An Imperial Valley native, Chairwoman Eugenio was born and raised in El Centro. She attended California State University San Marcos, earning a bachelor’s degree in Literature in Writing Studies and a master’s degree in Rhetoric and Writing Studies from San Diego State University. Early in her career, she taught at both a private girls’ and boys’ school in the San Francisco and Napa areas, and began her own tutoring company.

As an educator, Director Eugenio has taught at Mira Costa College in Oceanside, Cal State San Marcos, and currently teaches English and Communications at Imperial Valley College, as well as Rhetoric and Writing Studies at San Diego State in Calexico. During the day, she works as a Corporate and Government Affairs Specialist for the Anza Borrego Foundation.

Her term on the IID Board of Directors continues through December 2026.
