IID Seeks Public Input on Proposed Rate Updates

The Imperial Irrigation District (IID) is holding a public hearing to discuss proposed updates to power rates for the years 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028. These changes will affect both residential and nonresidential customers. Full details of the proposed rate updates, along with supporting materials, are available at www.iid.com/Ratelnfo. 

This is the first update to IID’s power rates since 2015 and it is necessary to address rising costs associated with improving reliability, including infrastructure upgrades, higher fuel and power purchase costs, increased material, service, and labor expenses, and compliance with state renewable energy mandates.

If approved, IID’s rates will remain among the lowest in California. Even with these proposed updates for 2025-2028, IID rates would be more than 39% lower than Southern California Edison rates and 52% lower than San Diego Gas & Electric rates, assuming no increase in those utilities’ rates.

IID is committed to supporting under-resourced communities, particularly those eligible for the Residential Energy Assistance Program (REAP). While the REAP discount is based on income levels set by the Federal Poverty Level, IID often extends this assistance beyond the standard guidelines to help more customers in need. The public hearing will take place at: 

• La Quinta Boardroom, located at 81600 Avenue 58, La Quinta, CA 92253, on January 8, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.
• William R. Condit Auditorium, located at 1285 Broadway Street, El Centro, CA 92243, on January 16, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.

A final decision will be made at the IID Board meeting on January 21, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
