Residential ServiceIID serves more than 150,000 customers in Imperial County and portions of Riverside and San Diego counties. As the sixth largest utility in the state, connecting people and industry to vital services is what we do best.

Establishing Residential Service

Residential customers who wish to apply for electric service may telephone IID Energy at (760) 335-3640 or toll-free at 1-800-303-7756 or click on the following link to download a New Service Application [PDF]. Once completed, please send via email to customer service. You may also apply for electric service through IID Customer Connect's online service form. We will try to have your service established by the next working day.

You may also phone in to transfer electricity from one residence to another. A hookup fee called a Service Establishment Charge will be charged and is not refundable.

Residential Deposit Requirement

Deposits are not normally* required when connecting service. However, if your service is disconnected due to nonpayment, a deposit based on average monthly consumption may be required to reinstate the account.

Additionally, a reconnection fee will be assessed ($25 regular time and $100 overtime), along with the outstanding balance on the account. Once the account has maintained one year in good standing, the deposit will be refunded.

Disconnecting Service

There is no charge to have power disconnected. Arrangements can be made over the telephone or on our website. Disconnects are done on weekdays (excluding holidays). If you are disconnecting your power, please call or e-mail us with the following information:

  • Your account number
  • Date service is to be stopped 
  • Forwarding address (for closing bill)

Establishing Commercial Service

Applicants for all classes of service other than domestic will normally be required to furnish and maintain a satisfactory guaranty, by deposit or otherwise, for payment of charges in connection with such service, provided that such guaranty may not be required where it shall appear to the district that the applicant’s credit is sufficient to assure payment of any such charges as they become due.

When required, the amount of guaranty or deposit to establish credit for all classes of service other than domestic, shall be based on estimated usage, and will normally approximate a sum not less than two times the estimated average monthly bill, computed on a 12-month basis, for the service.
