Meter TamperingElectric theft is a crime and is extremely dangerous. People who interfere with electric lines and meters are endangering themselves, their families and neighbors. They may also be putting utility personnel and first responders who may be responding to an emergency at great risk. You can help IID by reporting anyone you suspect of tampering with an electric line or meter. All information you provide will be held in strict confidence and we will investigate and prosecute such criminals to the greatest extent of the law.

IID is a public power provider. Therefore, acts against IID such as metal theft, meter tampering/energy theft and vandalism impact the rates IID charges its customers. Direct losses include increasing costs to customers and greater wait times for new construction and needed maintenance projects. Indirect losses to IID and its customers not only include inconvenience, they have the potential to interrupt worker productivity and affect the general economy of the region.

Should you have information regarding any of these situations, IID asks that you contact its customer service department at 1-800-303-7756 – option #2.
