Frequently Asked Questions for Energy Rewards Rebates for HVAC
Updated 12/31/2019
Does IID ever talk to local contractors when developing programs?
Yes. When reviewing programs, IID calls on local HVAC contractors to obtain information about the systems being sold. In fact, IID was advised that 16 SEER units sold quite well in 2017. It was also discovered that sales for units above 16 SEER were not strong due to the lack of financial incentive. To encourage greater energy savings, IID now offers a third rebate tier for customers who wish to purchase units with a 17 SEER rating or above.
Could IID offer rebates for packaged units in Tier 2?
IID has listened to customer and contractor feedback and responded by adding an incentive rebate within Tier 2 for packaged units that meet a minimum of 16 SEER and 12 EER. This should allow an increase in program participation and an added benefit to customers.
Can a person get a rebate without an air conditioner installation permit from the city? IID used to require the permit number on the rebate application, which saved licensed contractors from “side jobbers” who install units.
Currently, IID’s Energy Rewards rebate application does not require a copy of the permit nor a permit number. The applicant must certify compliance with all program requirements and all applicable local, state and/or federal laws. The local building departments have jurisdiction over enforcement activities and as such, the district does not enforce the state permitting requirement. However, IID performs quarterly validation checks of the California licensure of participating contractors to help increase consumer protection and encourage proper business practices.
Does IID provide rebate incentives for commercial customers?
Yes. IID’s Energy Rewards Program extends to non-residential customers. In fact, a number of rebate incentives are available for non-residential customers. For more information, please visit www.iid.com/commercialrebates.
