The 2025 application period for this year’s Residential Tree Program was from August 25, at 10 a.m. through September 2, at 5 p.m.  All applicants who submitted a request this year will be notified within 4-6 weeks if their application was chosen through random selection lottery. Planting will begin between October and December. Those customers, who did not apply or were not chosen through the lottery, may review this website next summer for updates on the 2026 edition of the program.

How the Tree for All Program Works

The Tree for All program offers customers the opportunity to receive one free shade tree professionally planted at their home by a licensed contractor. Each tree is specifically chosen for its ability to thrive in our desert climate, and it is placed to maximize energy savings by providing shade to homes.

What Customers Can Expect

A licensed contractor will reach out to lottery winners within 4 to 6 weeks after the sign-up period closes to schedule a time and date to visit your home to establish an ideal planting location. Planting will take place between October and December 2025 at a time when tree survivability is determined to be greater. Customers will have the option to choose among tree species selected for their durability in the desert environment, planted in the optimal location for energy efficiency. After planting, you'll receive care instructions to help your tree grow strong and healthy.

Trees play a critical role in improving our environment and enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods. By planting trees, we help reduce residential energy consumption, provide shade that lowers cooling costs, and improve air quality. Beyond these benefits, trees also beautify our surroundings, and create healthier, more connected communities.

Program Impact

Since the program began, IID has distributed thousands of trees to households in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys. Here is how many trees have been planted each year:

2022: Approximately 500 trees

2023: Approximately 1,000 trees

2024: Approximately 1,000 trees

2025: Approximately 1,300 (projected)

Caring for Your Tree

Proper care is essential to ensure your tree provides lasting benefits. Along with energy savings, a well-cared-for tree can improve air quality, support local wildlife, and boost property values. While your tree may take time to reach its full potential, it will provide long-term advantages that make the initial effort worthwhile.

Program Guidelines

IID customers may participate in the Tree for All program once every 12 months. IID’s Tree for All Program is one of the many public benefits programs offered by the district for its power customers. More information and updates will be shared on this page as they become available. Please check back regularly for the latest announcements.
