What is an Energy Assessment?
An Energy Assessment consists of an onsite consultation with a qualified energy specialist designed to help you understand the electric consumption of your business. The specialist will examine your business facilities and help you find ways to reduce energy consumption, improve comfort and lower energy bills.
What happens at the Energy Assessment?
An energy specialist will start by providing you with the electrical usage of your business for the previous 12 months. We have found that reviewing usage helps customers understand their consumption patterns. The energy specialist will also inquire about the outcome you are hoping to achieve with the Energy Assessment. This will help ensure our representative answers your specific questions and addresses concerns. The specialist will also examine the inside and outside of your business facility, taking inventory of the different systems in your establishment (plumbing, heating/cooling, water storage, building envelope, appliances, lighting, etc.).
How long will the Energy Assessment last?
A typical consultation will last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of your business and the equipment in use. This should allow adequate time for the energy specialist to discuss your energy usage with you and examine your business for energy-saving opportunities.
What do I need to do to prepare for the Energy Assessment?
IID requires that an adult be present during the entire consultation. During the assessment, the energy specialist may need access to all the rooms in your business, garage and yard. If you have a concern regarding the energy specialist entering any of the rooms of your business, please discuss those concerns with the service agent when scheduling your appointment.
What will be the outcome of the Energy Assessment?
Upon the completed examination, the energy specialist will generate a report** that summarizes the existing conditions in your business, identify potential energy-saving measures and direct you towards additional resources and energy-saving remediation. The Energy Assessment report will be mailed or e-mailed to you, based on your preference.
*Free onsite Energy Assessments are available every three years to non-residential customers with a consumption load below 30 kilowatts.
