IID’s updated rates take effect on February 1, 2025. This change is part of our ongoing effort to provide reliable, high-quality power service while maintaining transparency in billing.

Historical Rate Updates

The last base rate update by IID occurred in 2015, with a 7.4% change to the rate structure, and previously 3.5% in 1994.

Since 1994, inflation has gone up 117%; otherwise, the cost of living has more than doubled. Yet, IID’s rates have only gone up 8.15% since 1994.

Why the Rate Update is Needed

The revenues generated by the proposed rate update will help IID:

  • Invest in capital improvements to modernize an aging fleet
  • Support optimal asset management
  • Maintain financial stability
  • Cover the rising costs of providing reliable electric service
  • Comply with state and regulatory mandates
  • Meet environmental goals, including greenhouse gas reductions and renewable portfolio standards
  • Support the growth of the regional economy
  • Facilitate renewable energy development and transmission from the Imperial Valley to the broader California region
