Shift & Save! Commercial Customers

With Time-of-Use

IID’s Shift & Save! Program Time-of-Use rate gives General Service and Large General Service customers an opportunity to save by reducing electricity use during higher-cost on-peak hours and using more energy during lower-cost off-peak hours.

With Time-of-Use, when your business uses energy matters. Electricity costs more during on-peak hours, when energy demand is higher, and costs less during off-peak hours.

By moving some business operations, equipment use or other energy needs to off-peak hours, eligible commercial customers can take more control of their electric bill. Learn more about Time-of-Use rate details, hours and eligible holidays.

How Shift & Save! Works

Shift & Save! is an optional Time-of-Use rate. Instead of paying the same energy rate throughout the day, customers pay different rates based on when electricity is used.

  • On-peak hours cost more.
  • Off-peak hours cost less.
  • Weekends and eligible holidays are off-peak all day.

The more energy your business can move away from on-peak hours, the more opportunity you may have to save.

Eligibility

Shift & Save! Time-of-Use is available to eligible commercial customers served under:

Net Billing customers are eligible to participate. Net Energy Metering customers and accounts with virtual meters are not eligible to participate.

Energy Savings Tips for Businesses

With IID’s Shift & Save! Time-of-Use rate, businesses may have more opportunities to save by planning energy use around lower-cost, off-peak hours.

Every business operates differently, so savings will depend on when and how your business uses electricity. Review your daily operations and look for equipment, systems or activities that may be able to run before or after on-peak hours, or on weekends and eligible holidays when off-peak rates apply all day.

Easy Ways to Save

  • Adjust thermostats and use programmable controls to reduce cooling during on-peak hours.
  • Run energy-intensive equipment and appliances during off-peak hours when possible.
  • Use timers, sensors or smart power strips to reduce energy use when equipment is not needed.
  • Keep cool air inside by closing blinds, sealing leaks and maintaining doors and windows.
  • Upgrade to energy-efficient lighting, equipment and appliances when replacements are needed.
