Home MenuOn-Peak, Off-Peak and Holiday Hours
With IID’s Shift & Save! Program Time-of-Use rate, customers can save by shifting electricity use to lower-cost, off-peak hours. The price of electricity changes based on the season and the time of day energy is used.
The information below shows the on-peak and off-peak time periods for summer and winter months.
On-peak hours apply Monday through Friday only and do not include weekends or eligible holidays. Weekends and eligible holidays are off-peak all day, giving customers more opportunities to shift energy use and save.

Use Less During On-Peak Hours
The goal of IID’s Shift & Save! Program Time-of-Use rate is to encourage customers to use less electricity during the hours when energy demand is highest.
IID’s summer on-peak hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, from May through October. This is the time of day when many households are returning home, using air conditioning, cooking dinner, doing laundry and turning on more lights and electronics. Demand can rise quickly when high temperatures place added pressure on the electric grid.
When demand is high, IID may need to rely on more costly energy resources to meet customer needs. By using less electricity during on-peak hours, customers can help reduce the need for higher-cost energy while supporting the reliability of IID’s electric system.
Small changes can make a difference. Try running major appliances before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m. on weekdays, or anytime on weekends and eligible holidays when all hours are off-peak. These simple shifts can help customers take advantage of lower-cost hours and make the most of the Shift & Save! Program.
