With Time-of-Use
IID’s Shift & Save! Program Time-of-Use rate can help customers save money by reducing electricity use during higher-cost on-peak hours and using more energy during lower-cost, off-peak hours.
With Time-of-Use, electricity costs less during off-peak hours. Customers have more opportunities to save by shifting activities like laundry, using the dishwasher, charging electric vehicles or running other major appliances to off-peak times.
From May through October, IID’s on-peak hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday. Winter on-peak hours are different, but weekends and eligible holidays are off-peak all day year-round. Learn more about Time-of-Use rate details, hours and eligible holidays.

Energy Savings Tips
With IID’s Shift & Save! Program Time-of-Use rate, when you use electricity matters. Shifting energy use to lower-cost, off-peak hours can help customers save money on their electric bill.
Easy Ways to Save
- Plan appliance use around off-peak hours. Use your washer, dryer, dishwasher and other major appliances before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m. on weekdays, or anytime on weekends and eligible holidays.
- Set your thermostat to 78 degrees or higher. Keeping your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher in the summer can help reduce cooling costs while still keeping your home comfortable.
- Use fans to stay cool for less. Ceiling and floor fans can help you feel cooler, but remember to turn them off when you leave the room.
- Block the sun during the hottest parts of the day. Use shades, blinds, curtains, awnings or shade screens to help keep heat out of your home.
- Clean or replace your air conditioner filter monthly. A clean filter helps your air conditioner work more efficiently.
