If you purchase your rooftop solar system, then it’s likely to be considered an asset and will be included with the value of your home; however, if you lease a system or are financing it through a loan tied to your property taxes, the debt may be considered a liability.

 

Understand your lease/finance agreement regarding the transferability of the system. Some questions you should ask include: 

• Will the new home owner need to qualify to take over the lease?
• Do you want to take the system with you to a new home?
